Photography is the process of recording still images with the help of photographic equipment, for the purposes of documentary and artistic expression. Film photography employs light-sensitive materials that undergo chemical processes to capture images.

The word ‘photography’ is made up of ‘photo-’ and ‘-graphy’, both of which originate from the Greek for ‘light’ and ‘drawing’ respectively. Thus, it can be interpreted as ‘drawing with light’.
