A lintel is a horizontal structure, often a beam, that spans openings such as doors, portals or windows. In China, horizontal paper cuts with words of blessing are placed on door lintels, typically along with a pair of vertical door decorations during the Spring festival to celebrate the occasion and to welcome good fortune.
