A stem cup, or stem bowl, is a vessel whose shape is influenced by metalware in Western Asia. The lower half of the vessel is elongated, resembling a stem. Stem cups were introduced to China in the 5th century and were used as drinking and ritual vessels during the Yuan dynasty.
