Glaze is a glass-like layer on the surface of a ceramic body. Rich in metal oxides, the glaze can be applied to the ceramic in various ways and a glassy coating will be formed after firing at high temperatures and cooling. It can serve to make ceramics more aesthetically pleasing and to add a protective layer.
