Originating in the United States and inspired by Surrealism, the movement is characterised by gestural brushstrokes or mark-making. Artists like Fong Chung-Ray and Leong Lampo, known for blending traditional Chinese techniques with Western styles in their paintings, were also influenced by this movement.
