Abstract Expressionism

Abstract Expressionism

Abstract Expressionism refers to a style that explores an artist’s subconscious or unconscious mind, using personalised imagery to create spontaneous and ostensibly unorganised and rebellious works. Originating in the United States and inspired by Surrealism, the movement is characterised by gestural brushstrokes or mark-making. Artists like Fong Chung-Ray and Leong Lampo, known for blending traditional Chinese techniques with Western styles in their paintings, were also influenced by this movement.
