Fangzhenxiu

Fangzhenxiu (‘Realistic representational embroidery’)

Fangzhenxiu (‘Realistic representational embroidery’) is an embroidery style developed by Qing dynasty embroiderer Shen Shou (1874–1921). By incorporating depictions of light and perspective found in Western paintings and Japanese embroidery, fangzhenxiu displays three-dimensional effects and realistic compositions on fabric, while manifesting the essence of traditional Chinese embroidery.
